The volcanic landscape of the Teide area on Tenerife
Teide on Tenerife. The selected ascent starts in Los Cristianos and follows the road into the volcanic highlands.

Choose a substantial ascent by elevation gained rather than summit altitude. All four saved profiles gain at least 1,500 m: Teide from Los Cristianos, Stelvio from Prato, Grande Dixence from Sion and Furka from Amsteg.

Compare the climbs

4 selected routes, from 24.6 km to 48.3 km, with 1,639 m to 2,457 m of elevation gain.

Elevation gain is not summit height

The 1,500 m threshold applies to accumulated ascent in the saved profile. It is not a claim that the finish is 1,500 m above sea level, nor that every metre of road rises continuously. Measurements cover the selected segment, excluding your journey to the start and return.

Choose the long approach deliberately

Furka from Amsteg includes the lower approach through the Reuss valley before the upper pass road. Grande Dixence starts in Sion and ends at the road destination below the dam. Teide is a road ascent, not a bicycle route to the volcano’s summit. Shorter starts on these mountains are different profiles.

Average gradient describes the recorded route as a whole. Open a climb to see its elevation profile and how the gradient changes along the road.
