Passo Gardena road and limestone peaks in the Dolomites
Passo Gardena, on the approach from Plan de Gralba.

A pass name does not tell you which side you will climb. This Dolomites selection separates approaches from Arabba, Corvara, Plan de Gralba, Cortina d'Ampezzo and Selva di Cadore, alongside Fedaia, San Pellegrino and Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Compare each recorded route before opening its elevation profile.

Compare both sides of a pass

Campolongo appears from both Arabba and Corvara; Gardena appears from Corvara and Plan de Gralba. Giau has separate entries from Cortina d'Ampezzo and Selva di Cadore. Each approach has its own distance, ascent and gradient. A shorter road to the same pass can still have a higher average gradient, so keep the starting village attached to the route when comparing your options.

Routes from shared starting points

From Plan de Gralba, the selection includes both Sella and Gardena. From Cortina d'Ampezzo, it includes Giau, Falzarego and the continuation to Valparola via Falzarego. Those last two profiles overlap in part, so adding their full ascent figures would count shared road twice. Fedaia's profile is especially useful for seeing the transition from gentler early stretches to the steeper road after Malga Ciapela. The individual tracks are climb profiles, not a connected loop itinerary.

The four Sella passes

Sella, Gardena, Campolongo and Pordoi form the well-known Sellaronda circuit. The approaches selected here start in several valleys and do not all follow one circuit direction. Choose a complete loop separately rather than adding every alternative side in this table. The local tourism guide also links Fedaia and Pordoi from Canazei; its full ride is longer than either individual ascent.

Average gradient describes the recorded route as a whole. Open a climb to see its elevation profile and how the gradient changes along the road.
