The Tour entered the high Pyrenees in 1910, including Tourmalet. This collection selects the eastern ascent from Sainte-Marie-de-Campan for comparison; the historical reference does not imply that the saved profile reproduces the race’s direction or full stage.
Fausto Coppi won when the Tour first finished at Alpe d’Huez in 1952. The selected modern profile follows the Tour de France road from Le Bourg-d’Oisans, allowing you to inspect its distance and gradient before planning a ride.
On the snow-hit 1988 Giro stage over Gavia, Erik Breukink won the stage and Andy Hampsten took the pink jersey. Here, the Gavia profile starts in Ponte di Legno; it covers the ascent rather than the full stage to Bormio.
Tom Simpson died on Mont Ventoux during the 1967 Tour. The Bédoin ascent passes the area of his memorial below the summit. This is a place of remembrance as well as a famous racing road; the collection does not turn the event into a performance challenge.
Average gradient describes the recorded route as a whole. Open a climb to see its elevation profile and how the gradient changes along the road.
